Sewing for Baby: a Few Practical Projects

Here is a cushion for our highchair. I made a removable cover so that I can wash it. I sewed piping around the edge.

Buttons in the back to take the cover off easily. And grosgrain ribbon to tie the cushion to the chair.

Next up a simple zipper bag. We are planning to use cloth diapers so this will be handy to have for dirties. It is lined with waterproof fabric. I had never sewn a zipper into a bag before so this was a new challenge. I hope to make a few more. 

Sewing for Baby: Mittens

This pattern for wool mittens is from my new favorite sewing book: Oliver + S Little Things to Sew. I want to make everything in this book!

Sewing for Baby: Bibs

I have been getting back into sewing and have a few projects under my belt. I thought it might be easy to start with some bibs. My first attempt was this reversible bib. I love the fabric. Turtles and apples!  On the back is a simple apple fabric. 

For my second bib, I tried a different pattern. This is a vintage style bib that ties in the back. 

Another bib with adorable fabric - flying dogs. I kept this one simple without any binding and lined with a flannel back. 

Whale Onsies

We now have a wonderful collection of handmade whale-themed onsies from our baby shower. These were silkscreened by our friends. And the original artwork came from our friends too! Below is an illustration from Michael Stillion, the balloons are pulling the whale out of the water.

A Whale of a Good Time

Thanks to our friends and family for a totally amazing party. We definitely felt like we were in a sea of love for baby Houston! The party was just like our wedding, complete with a photobooth! We had so much fun.  A huge thank you to our incredible hosts Tamara, Pam and Sarah!
