A Historic Night

(Art by Shepard Fairey)
45 years ago Martin Luther King gave his monumental speech, "I Have a Dream" as part of The March on Washington.  Tonight Barack Obama inspires a similar dream for what is possible in America as he accepts the Democratic party's nomination for President.

Floodwall Exhibit - A Katrina Memorial

Tonight we met Jana Napoli, the artist of Floodwall, a collection of drawers and stories from the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  Jana is also the founder of YA/YA in New Orleans and an insightful palmist.

Colleen's on the Cover of CityBeat

The article quotes Colleen as saying 'youngsters' which is funny because she hasn't reached the stage in life where she calls anyone youngsters.  For the article: http://citybeat.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A145940

A Studio Visit

Thanks to Andy's folks, we had the amazing fortune to meet William Christenberry and visit his studio in Washington D.C. this past weekend.  He is one of Andy's favorite photographers - probably even more so now. It was an unforgettable experience!

William Christenberry

Artist, William Christenberry, was born in 1936 in Hale County, Alabama - the same year that Walker Evans and James Agee traveled to Hale County to document what is now the incredible book, "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men." Christenberry has returned to Hale Co. every year since 1968 to photograph the changing south - the loss of vernacular architecture, invasive kudzu, innovative use of materials at gravesites, rusting signs, and more.  Here is a small sampling of his work.

Thursday Night at Terry's Turf Club

This awesome bar and burger joint is on Eastern Ave.

They have 3 Bevadors inside! Notice the yellow one behind Andy.

Andy's Family Reunion

This is the weekend of Andy's Family Reunion in South Carolina, which sadly we cannot attend.  We went two years ago and it was pretty special. Here is Andy with two of his cousins.

Here we were riding in Chad's monster truck.
Hickory Grove, South Carolina

Here is what we're missing!  Meeting the newest of Andy's cousins - William Driggs Mitchell.

Northside Yard Sale

We had a bit of competition this weekend for the Northside neighborhood yard sale.  The world's longest yard sale which stretches along highway 127 from Kentucky to Alabama took place this very weekend so we know that's where all the real shoppers were!

We still made a small effort.
Clare and Malcolm played with old toys one last time.

Our neighbor Sam made delicious homemade lemonade!  He made $10.00.
