Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler

We love Mardi Gras and decided to have a little celebration this year for the occasion of Fat Tuesday. We made a king cake, crawfish ettoufee and sazeracs. Below is the king cake before it went into the oven. Of course the secret to a good king cake is baking it with a coffee can from Cafe Du Monde in the center. Any coffee can will do but a Cafe Du Monde coffee can does impart a je ne sais quoi. Also it is important not to forgot to tuck a plastic baby into the dough before baking. The tradition is whomever finds the baby has to host next year's party. I like that thought.

The funny thing is Ando found the baby in his piece of cake, so guess who's hosting next year's party?
Our friend Rob served up some mean sazeracs using rye, bitters, simple syrup, herbsaint and lemon peel. And of course the mardi gras beads were out!
