A few images from the Viva Mexico! exhibit at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park in San Diego.
This Tree of Life is amazing. It has 3 sides, measures over 6' tall and is intricately sculpted from clay and handpainted. A detail below.
Sarah, this enormous sugar skull is for you!

A nice exhibit of jellyfish crocheted from colored copper wire.
The most impressive exhibit was created by artist Sonabai, an Indian woman who was imprisoned by her husband in her own home for 15 years. She created a wonderfully colorful environment inside of her home to remind her of the outside world - full of brightly colored birds, children and more. When her work was discovered she was celebrated for her talents and vision and has since taught members of her family and neighbors in her village, inspiring a brand new folk art tradition. You can read more about Sonabai here and here.
